Films: The Creature Below (2016)
Alias: None
Type: Ancient
Location: Ocean/Civilized Area
Height/Weight: Up to that of a small house.
Affiliation: Neutral, leaning on Evil
Summary: This would not be the first time a human was impregnated with the spawn of a monstrous being, be it from the depths of Hell or from outer space. For here, the menace came from the deep waters, and all it had to do was wait to see if its kind could live above the sea. And needless to say, it payed off. Not for us, necessarily.
History: While on a deep sea dive, Olive was met with an unsightly cephalopod-looking creature that did...things...to her. Not too long after her life starts going south, Olive finds that she's got herself an egg of unknown origin, which hatches into a harmless-looking animal. But soon, Olive begins to leak black gunk, her visions become nightmares, and she finds herself feeding the little monster human flesh. Soon, everyone becomes suspicious...
Notable Kills: Nothing special.
Final Fate: After she threatens her own family with death, Olive is killed by her own offspring, which is in turn destroyed as well. But later, it is shown that the monster that started this has multiplied, its hatching brood all over the beach, and it rises over the horizon to raid the surface...
Powers/Abilities: None.
Weakness: Anything conventional.
Scariness Factor: 2.5-The babies are deadly, but at the same time, they're kind of adorable. That is, adorable in a "only a real nightmare enthusiast could like this" way. As for the adult, while it's got some Lovecraftian vibes to it, it's ultimately undone by crap CGI, and the fact that if its young could be easily disposed of, so can it.
Trivia: -In the original ending, Olive's sister doesn’t see the fully-grown creature rise along with its offspring. Instead, she stands on the beach clutching an egg, and with changes indicating that she's in the exact same position as her sister was.
-The prop for the baby creature would later cameo in director Stewart Sparke's 2019 film "Book of Monsters".
